• Red XIII - still adding to our forum history!
  • I think this is a funny story and I had to share it

Over the last week the forum has gone offline a couple of times. You might have noticed an "account suspended" message - my understanding is that due to anti-spam measures, accounts get suspended when a suspiciously large number of spam-like emails get sent out. Obviously, we here at CMX are not in the business of sending spam  The initial view was that the account was compromised and someone was using this account to send out spam. Fortunately it turned out this wasn't the case. After some investigation by HostForWeb (our webhost) it turned out that the cause of the spam was Red's old email address, dating back to around 2005 when forum members were given personalised "@cricketmx.com" email addresses :)

A possible explanation is that the account is set up on an old Outlook somewhere, and a run of the mill malware has starting sending spam emails from that account! So if you see this Red, run AVG or something... you brought the forum to its knees twice in a week! :)

  • CricketMX celebrates double digits
  • Today marks the 10th anniversary of CricketMX! :D

There is so much to celebrate about the history of this forum; a tight knit group of founding members who joined because of a shared interest in WinMX, followed by another group who have achieved the rare double of being important contributors at both CricketMX.com and phpBB.com have united over the years to contribute over 105,000 posts plus a lot of laughs and good memories here.

It's hard to believe how much the world has changed in the time that CricketMX has been online. In January 2004 the iPhone didn't exist, the TV show Friends was still airing new episodes and The Killers hadn't yet released the first album. Besides that, in the last 10 years America has seen a new president elected and Australia has seen 3 new prime ministers, the US closed the book on a distressing chapter in their country's history when they landed in Pakistan on May 2, 2011, the world has witnessed far too many natural disasters and to end on a happy note, the birth of Prince George means the line to the throne has been extended deep into the future. And it wouldn't be right if I didn't mention a cricketing statistic as well; when this forum started the state of the Zimbabwe Test cricket team hadn't yet plunged into chaos. That ship has since righted, and then stumbled again; possibly multiple times!

It is no understatement to say that while this forum has been around, the world has changed a lot. I hope this forum continues to be here as the world evolves and improves.

Thanks to everyone who has ever contributed here. 10 years is a huge achievement that we should all be proud of! :)

  • CricketMX turns 9
  • I watched the clock tick over to 4:26pm today and memories of the last 9 years came flooding back. I remembered the discussions I had with jmstacey in early 2004, perhaps even as early as late 2003, in preparation of setting up the CricketMX forums. I thought about the chatroom on WinMX which quicksilver and me here ran which brought so many users to the forum. Names of all of the valued contributors which have passed through here sprang to mind.

The CricketMX network has given me so much pleasure and enjoyment over the last 9 years, I hope that it has given the same to the members too - and hopefully for years to come as well :) :D

    Happy 9th anniversary!
