It's been a wonderful journey, and I look forward to seeing what the next 5 years have in store for us. It is a testament to the success of the site and the dedication of all of the wonderful members of CMX that for the 5th year running we were able to reach over 10,000 posts for the year - since January 11, 2004 CricketMX has averaged a remarkable 50.17 posts per day.
For something a bit different, I was hoping everyone could post one of the memories of their time at CMX that stands out in their minds
I will start:
Before CMX, there was the Winmxcommunity - which a lot of the long time members were a part of. I posted an article about Winmxcommunity just a few minutes ago, which is a blast from the past if you would like to read it: http://www.cricketmx.com/articles/read/ ... of-an-era/
If I had never registered at Winmxcommunity, I would never have had the inspiration to create CMX. I had one particular conversation with the owner of Winmxcommunity - Vulpes - which probably convinced me to go ahead and start a forum. Bear in mind, I have used 3 new computers since this conversation took place in late 2003, so it is remarkable that I still have it to post here today!
Here it is... (I knew absolutely nothing about forums at this time )

<Vulpes> nah
<Vulpes> it takes some time
<battye> ive heard you need something called sql, do you know what that is?
<Vulpes> if you write it from scrach, its very hard
<Vulpes> but nobody ever does that

<battye> to keep memory of all posts? or something totally different lol
<battye> its a great forum u have vulpes
<Vulpes> yeah thats where everything is stored
<Vulpes> from posts to users to private messages
<battye> so the forum wouldnt run without it?
<Vulpes> no wawy
<Vulpes> way
<Vulpes> sql server is like a storage building
<Vulpes> while the forum you see is a store where you browse products
<battye> could you use other databases like ms access? or does it have to
run on sql?
<Vulpes> i think you cant
<battye> you cant? or did u accidentally hit t lol
<battye> ive been thinking of making a forum, so im just curious as to
what u need
<Vulpes> you can

did when u told me a few minutes ago
<battye> is sql free? or do u dl it somewhere?
<Vulpes>www.mysql.com
<Vulpes> its free
<battye> really, great!
<battye> so, if i dl this, i should be able to make my own forum?
<battye> to create it, do i need to be on the net, or can u do it all
offline, then publish it?
<Vulpes> you will also need a http server
<Vulpes> such as apache
<battye> i need a server?
<Vulpes> yes
<battye> i didnt no that lol
<battye> why do i need a server? to host it when publishing?
<Vulpes> to access it too
<battye> to edit it?
<battye> sorry, i dont no too much about servers besides what they are lol
<Vulpes> to do anything
<battye> oh, the part about needing a server kinda turned me off, thanks
for all the help though
<battye> cya later
